Ten Years of Brass Blast
Ten years of Brass Blast - the best is still to come
Since 2016, Brass Blast has brought together young people aged 9–18 from across East Edinburgh to learn brass, reeds and street drumming, and to play together in a band that is open to everyone.
No audition, no prior experience - just show up on a Tuesday. Founded by Oi Musica to address the shortage of accessible music-making in the area, it has grown into Scotland's only project of its kind, with 80 young musicians playing every week at Edinburgh College and Brunstane Primary School.
To celebrate ten years, we're marking 2026 in style. This page is where you'll find everything happening across the anniversary year - from a brand new video series telling the story of the band in their own words, to the recording of Brass Blast's very first EP, a packed schedule of gigs and festivals, and a trip to London to perform at the Southbank Centre alongside Kinetika Bloco.
Brass Blast 10th Anniversary - Video Series
To mark ten years, we're releasing a series of short films that tell the story of Brass Blast from the people who know it best - the young players, the tutors, the founders and the families.
New films are being added throughout 2026 as the band records its debut EP and prepares for a landmark year.

On stage in this summer!
This year, Brass Blast have one of their busiest schedules yet - festivals, busks and some very special shows, including their 10th anniversary performance at our own Brassed Up Mini Festival at Portobellow Town Hall.
Oh, and a little trip to the Southbank Centre in London. Not bad for a Tuesday night street band from East Edinburgh.
